Harry Liu, the former chair of the Philippine Stock Exchange, has passed away, as confirmed by his family.

Based on the family’s announcement, Liu died on Tuesday, July 1.

Reports from various news outlets shared that Liu was 77 years old at the time of his death and would have turned 78 on September 4.

He will be laid to rest this coming Sunday, while his remains currently lie in state at Capilla del Señor, Sanctuary de San Antonio Parish in Makati.

Harry Liu was a well-known figure in the Philippine financial industry, best recognized for serving as chairman of the Philippine Stock Exchange from 1998 to 1999.

He also led Summit Securities, a brokerage firm that later faced scrutiny over alleged questionable trading activities, such as cross-trading that may have created a false sense of market activity.

During his time on the board of the Philippine Stock Exchange, Liu was involved in shaping the direction of the institution, even amid internal conflicts that revealed tensions among broker-directors.

He also contributed to discussions about launching a futures exchange in the country, reflecting his continuing influence in promoting reforms and development in the capital markets.

In another viral local report, a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to the report of EJ Gomez in ‘Unang Balita,’ the 38-year-old suspect committed the crime inside the school’s faculty room. Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
